DA Sullivan was an Honorary Co-Chairman of the 2015 Massachusetts White Ribbon Campaign to end violence against women; Fighting Serious Crime Co-founded and co-chairs the Northwestern Anti-Crime Task Force to address drug trafficking and major felonies in the Northwestern District; Created an Economic Crimes Unit to help investigate and prosecute serious financial exploitation, embezzlement, and fraud cases; Established the Northwestern Law Enforcement Assistance Program (LEAP) to provide local law enforcement with access to essential criminal justice training programs, assistance, and investigative tools; Community Engagement Created an Outreach & Education Unit to provide community and educational trainings to strengthen our communities and prevent crime; Created a Citizen's Advisory Board to advise and assist the Office in the areas of community outreach and education, crime prevention, community prosecution, civic engagement, social justice and civil rights issues; Confronting the Opioid Crisis and Addiction Established the Northwestern District Attorney’s Drug Diversion and Treatment Program. This voluntary program helps to reduce drug abuse and improve public safety by offering evaluation, treatment and intensive case management. Co-founded and co-chairs the Opioid Task Force of Franklin County and North Quabbin Region and HampshireHOPE, both task forces taking a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing the opioid epidemic impacting persons with addiction, their families, and communities; Coordinated with community partners on National Prescription Drug Take Back Days in the Northwestern District resulting in the removal of more than 30 tons (60,000 pounds) of unwanted prescription and nonprescription drugs from our communities and spearheaded the establishment of permanent drug take back boxes in 25 area police stations; No Veteran Left Behind Co-founded the Veteran’s Justice Partnership with community and criminal justice partners to provide coordinated services and treatment, and rehabilitation, and alternatives to incarceration for local veterans and military service members who enter the criminal justice system; Co-Founded the Western Massachusetts Veteran’s Treatment Court to serve court-involved veterans in the 3 western Massachusetts counties; Child Protection and Justice Created a Child Sexual Predator Task Force to enhance training for law enforcement and prosecutors to aid in the investigation and prosecution of child sexual predators; Created the Northwestern District Attorney Child Fatality Review Board to review and evaluate all infant and youth deaths in order to facilitate statewide prevention solutions to these tragic deaths. DA Sullivan serves as an advisor and Honorary Board member to both the Child Advocacy Center of Hampshire County and the Children’s Advocacy Center of Franklin County and North Quabbin, a CAC he co-founded in 2015. DA Sullivan has served for the past 11 years as a Board Member of the Massachusetts Children's Trust Board of Directors. The Children’s Trust mission is to end child abuse through community programs and resources. Prosecutor Excellence and Accountability Established a Conviction Integrity Unit; Brady Review Committee; Ethics Committee and prosecutor performance standards to ensure that our prosecutions are fair and just. Under his leadership, the office has embraced a community prosecution model. This approach blends smart and fair prosecutions, crime prevention, law enforcement partnerships, and community collaboration to build safer communities throughout Hampshire and Franklin counties and the town of Athol. Under DA Sullivan’s innovative leadership, the office has improved the criminal justice system, reduced crime and victimization, and held offenders accountable. Dave has been an attorney for more than 35 years serving as a trial attorney, advocate, and public administrator. He has handled criminal and civil cases in Superior, District, Juvenile, Probate and Military Courts. He started his law career in 1987 as a civilian trial attorney representing U.S. Army and Air Force service members in General and Special Courts-Martial in West Germany. He was Easthampton City Attorney and served as Register of Probate for Hampshire Probate and Family Court. In 2008, he was one of two Massachusetts lawyers chosen to receive the Massachusetts Bar Foundation's President's Award for "extraordinary volunteerism, leadership, and commitment to increasing access to justice in Massachusetts." Among his many civic activities, he has been a volunteer at the Easthampton Inter-Faith Cot Shelter, youth soccer and basketball coach, and assisted with the statewide MBA high school mock trial competition for over 20 years. Dave graduated from Northeastern University Law School and Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts.
